ok, this is a sci-fic short story i wrote, called the bubble, please don't steal it and feel free to comment on it.
The green tinted sky. The lush yellow grass with its bluish tint. The red orange dirt. It was all a normal everyday thing to William. He had grown accustom to this planet to this planet, ever since the sun moved and burned up the first three planets. The scientists said people had nothing to fear now, at least when it came to the sun moving. They told everyone that the sun had stopped moving, but that didn’t stop kids from spreading rumors. At first it sounded cool and new, living on a new planet, but now life on Mars was just, well, normal. He had only been three and a half when they made the horse, and after eleven years, things had grown regular. For a while he missed the chirping of the many birds, and watching the squirrels chase each other around the trees, but now he just ignored the fact they weren’t there. Now, rides home on his hover board brought back distant memories of how he remembered Earth, with it’s light blue sky and its green grass. Those kind of things just wouldn’t fit in here. His thoughts were interrupted by a voice which seemed too familiar. “Oh, William, could you fix my hover board so it could go faster, please,” Lucy pleaded in her ‘I’m a perfect angel’ voice. “No,” William replied strictly, “Mother said she wanted your board set at a seven miles per hour maximum, your only five after all.” “Fine,” Lucy muttered angrily. She slammed her foot down on her board and pressed the acceleration, even though it did her no good. “If dad were here he would probably let me,” she added tauntingly. “Well dad’s not here, and he never will be here,” William nearly yelled at her. She knew all the ways to make him upset, and her favorite one was to bring dad into the conversation. William’s life has been tough ever since the rocket that crashed into a comet took his dad’s life. His grades at school dropped, and his athletic ability did too. He found his mind wandering more often, and it was hard to concentrate on his work. William and Lucy pulled their hover boards up next the house and stepped off. William pressed a button on the wall and the hover boards drifted to their storage spots. The kids walked to the door with a bounce in their stride-thanks to the less gravity on this planet. The door quietly open and a voice that sounded dead greeted them kindly. They set their small backpacks onto a silver board, which immediately lifted a few inches off the ground and began drifting down the hallway. Their mother, Lucilia, looked up at them and smiled gently. She took off her book glasses and tucked a strand of her short blonde hair behind her ear. “Come, sit, and tell me about your day,” Lucilia said sweetly and motioned to the light leather couch across from her. William gave a small sigh and walked over to the couch, which softened to his liking as soon as he sat down. Lucy followed him and sat as far away from him as possible, still angry about her hover board. “What did you learn at school today, William?” Lucilia asked, as she always did. “Oh, the usual, you know. Math, Science, English, History, you know,” William said, his eyes wandering around the high tech room, which it’s light colored furniture and darker accents, “We did learn a bit about The Bubble and how it works. How it keeps oxygen in, and space out.” “I wonder what it’s like to walk on The Bubble, with all of space surrounding you,” Lucy said, looking out the window and up at the sky, “You can just barley see it from here. Maybe I’ll be able to walk on it someday.” “Don’t be dumb, Lucy,” William said, “They don’t let people walk on The Bubble anymore. They say it’s to dangerous.” It was true, ever since someone accidentally punctured a hole in The Bubble no one was allowed on it, except for the few managers who inspected the robots that checked for leaks. The Bubble was made way before anyone actually lived on Mars. They had surrounded the planet with a large bubble to protect the surface when they were experimenting. It was supported by ten large columns that are placed in various locations around Mars. When they realized that the sun was moving they filled The Bubble with oxygen and started moving people over. “May I leave now. Mother?” William asked, “My friends are waiting.” Lucilia nodded and watched him walk away. “Me too,” Said Lucy as she jumped off the couch and running after William, “Macy’s having a tea party today.” Their hover boards were already waiting for them outside the door. “Don’t forget your emergency air tanks,” Lucilia called after them, “Ever since they replaced they replaced the Bubble guards with robots…”she trailed off. William groaned and grabbed his air tank, which was hanging by the door. The door opened for them and the voice bid them farewell. The kids stepped on their hover boards and headed down the road. William pulled over next to a bush and quickly hid his air tank. “If mom finds out you will be in big trouble,” Lucy said teasingly. “I don’t care, I wouldn’t be caught dead with one of those things, they are so uncool.” William said and began speeding off down the road. His friends met him at the corner and all high-fived him. “Nice job ditching the air tank,” his friend Mark said. They headed off down the road to their normal hangout place, a small clearing in one of the many forests. Meanwhile, out on the outside of The Bubble, two men were inspecting the robots which guarded The Bubble. There were at least one hundred of them, each one exactly the next. They were all short and cube like, each one equipped with a scanner to search The Bubble for possible leaks. All except for one. Though he was just like the rest, he had a little bit extra, a sharp edge on one of his ‘feet’. The men didn’t notice it and went back to the control room. The flipped the switch, turning on all the robots, and leaned back in their chairs. One by one the robots turned on and began heading off in different directions, scanning the surface for possible leaks. The robot with the sharp edged foot, number 013, began making his way towards William’s town. It’s foot began piercing the bubble till there was a cut about three feet long. Oxygen quickly rushed out of the growing cut, but the robot didn’t notice. Once the cut was about three yards long another robot came across it and sent a signal back to the control room. The men panicked and quickly sounded an alarm which played on radios, televisions, street corners, and the main control system in houses and buildings. By now William and his friends were to far away to here the alarms. They were busy talking and listening to their music. “Hey, do you guys hear that noise?” Asked William’s friends, Matt, “It sounds like a faint buzzing sound. “I think there is something wrong with your ears,” Mark teased. Meanwhile, all the houses were sealing the air inside of them and all the people were getting off the streets as the air drained quicker and quicker. “Is it just me, or is it getting a little hard to breath?” Asked Jamie. “Dude, your face is turning blue!” William exclaimed, “We need to get back home!” The boys all got to their feet and ran to their hover boards, which were starting themselves up. “Matt, I think I hear that buzzing noise now, and I know what it is,” Matt said, panicked, “ It’s the alarm saying The Bubble is ripped, and we’re losing oxygen!” “Quick, we have to get to a house,” William shouted, “We should have brought our air tanks.” The boys accelerated their hover boards as fast as they could go. Their breathing became rapid as they flew through the trees. The could see the houses in the distance, but it was to late. They fell from their hover boards, blue face and silent. Their hover boards slid to a stop and only thing that could have saved them was lying under a bush, less than a mile away.
