It seems that the community of AVH is finally becoming a real "town". We now have a newspaper up and running, and will hopefully have it out every year of AVH. As infrequent as that sounds, I'm sure a year passes rather quickly for all of you. [Note: AVH years last 12 real life days]
The newspaper is written based on the general ethics of journalism. The only thing that we have changed was that the paper will be written as if AVH was a real community. This particular article will be different to the others, and as Editor in Chief of the newspaper, I feel that I need to explain different references to make the future issues of the paper easier to read.
In the paper, you will often see reference to "this town", "this community" or "this city". That is referring to AVH. We are hoping to write the paper as if AVH were a real community set between rolling hills and vast plains, as seen in the first article of the paper.
Because of that, we will not label people as "players" or "newbies". If you see the words "citizens", "residents", "people of AVH", "inhabitants", "members of AVH" or "populace", we are speaking of the players. We feel it makes it sound like a community if we refer to them in this way. We still call people by their guilds, but only when it applies to a single guild.
Some places on AVH also have references you may not know. The Fun area in the Town Hall will be named "the recreation centre" by the newspaper. If you see "recreation centre" or "Fun area", know we are talking about the one in the Town Hall with the games.
The Help Line will still be the Help Line, and we assume you know it is a chat room. We address it more like a place to visit or call, but know it is indeed a chat room.
Places like "home", "stable", "post office", "town hall" and "market" will not change. Gatekeeper has done a fine job naming these so it already sounds like a community. Things that DO change will be getting your mail. It will be "checking your mailbox", not "click on the post office".
Another change refers to shows. You will "enter shows", and "show your horse". We won't say "click on enter as many times as you can and then wait for the show to run". It has to sound a bit realistic.
Those are the only changes we have made, as of now. If you just read the article completely, most changes will make sense and you can easily figure them out.
Our paper will hopefully appear every AVH year. We have six articles that will appear regularly. A main article is the most important story of the issue and is on the front page. It is typically the longest. On the front page, we also have "Community Update", which tells of all the game news and how it applies to players. The editor will typically write that section.
On page two, we have an interview with a successful player, to help newer players learn from them. We also have a How-To on that page; another tool to help players be successful.
On page three, we have a Rare Breed and a Breed of The Year article. These highlight common and rare breeds. They have basic information and a little history about each.
On the last page, we have two guest articles, or in this case, a guest article and an editorial. If you want to write a guest article, please send me a message with a topic and get to work writing it.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how the paper can be written better, or ideas for articles or designs, you can send me a message at my player "LaVada".
